Fort Collins is known for its vibrant community, scenic beauty, and an array of services designed to enhance the quality of life for its residents. Among these services is Dial-A-Ride, a crucial program dedicated to providing door-to-door transportation for individuals who are prevented from using the Transfort bus system because of a disability.

    What is Dial-A-Ride?

Operating within a three-quarter mile radius from any Transfort bus route, Dial-A-Ride service ensures that residents with disabilities can travel to various destinations within the city. Whether it’s attending medical appointments, visiting friends, or going shopping, Dial-A-Ride provides a door-to-door personalized transportation solution.

The service operates Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and on Sundays and holidays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Trips can be reserved up to 14 days in advance, giving users the freedom to plan ahead and manage their schedules effectively.

Eligibility for Dial-A-Ride is determined based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). To apply, fill out an application available on the Dial-A-Ride webpage, or call 970-224-6066 to request an application be mailed to you.

    The Role of DARTAC

The Dial-A-Ride and Transit Accessibility Committee, DARTAC, is an informal committee that works closely with Transfort staff to advise on operational practices and advocate for enhanced accessibility and service quality.

The committee’s mission is to ensure consumer safety, enhance service satisfaction, and educate the community on transit accessibility issues. Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of every other month, offering a platform for members to share feedback, propose changes, and drive improvements. DARTAC’s role is pivotal in shaping how transit services are delivered and ensuring they meet the needs of all users.

    Why It Matters

Dial-A-Ride and DARTAC represent more than just transportation services—they symbolize Fort Collins’ commitment to inclusivity and community engagement. By providing essential transportation options and actively seeking to improve them, these programs ensure that every resident, regardless of their physical abilities, can enjoy the city’s offerings and participate fully in its vibrant life.

If you’re interested in learning more about Dial-A-Ride or getting involved with DARTAC, visit the Dial-A-Ride webpage or reach out to the Dial-A-Ride Program Manager, Katlyn Kelly, at kkelly@fcgov.com. Together, we can continue to build a more accessible and inclusive Fort Collins.
