Over the past year, Transfort has been working on an Optimization Plan – a project focused on delivering the best possible bus service within Transfort’s current budget.
Why This Plan Matters
Transit costs have increased since 2019 due to staffing, fuel and maintenance. Keeping service at past levels would cost about $3 million more each year, and fully completing the Transit Master Plan would require $15 million annually. Even with the new ¼-cent sales tax, there is still a funding gap.
This plan looks at how to use available resources wisely while meeting today’s travel needs.
What the Community Told Us
Through surveys, events, meetings and presentations, residents shared clear priorities:
- More frequent bus service, even if it serves fewer areas
- Simple, direct routes along major roads
- Reliable, safe and on-time service
- Better evening and weekend access
- Strong connections to schools, CSU, Front Range Community College, healthcare and recreation
People also emphasized keeping transit free and accessible, especially for those who rely on it most.
The Recommended Transit Scenario
Based on community feedback, data and the industry’s best practices, Transfort developed a recommended scenario that:
- Creates a simple, grid-like system
- Focuses service where ridership and need are highest
- Improves frequency and reliability
- Uses existing resources more efficiently
- Stays within financial limits
What’s Next
Planning for implementation begins in 2026, with service changes expected in 2027.
