  • The Transfort Optimization Plan: Improving Public Transit in Fort Collins

Public transit is a big part of life for many people in Fort Collins, and the City is working hard to make sure it stays efficient, and easy to use. That’s where the Transfort Optimization Plan comes in! This new plan will help figure out the best way to improve the bus system while keeping costs in check. Whether you take the bus every day or just occasionally, your opinion matters!

Why We Need the Transfort Optimization Plan

Operating the bus system at full service—meaning buses running just like they did in 2019 would cost an extra $3 million every year because of higher prices for things like fuel, staff, and bus maintenance. If the City wants to fully build out the Transit Master Plan by 2040, it will need an extra $15 million each year. Although a new ¼ cent sales tax for transit is helping by bringing in about $5 million a year, there’s still a $13 million gap to needed to operate full-service levels.

To handle this challenge, Transfort has launched a review of the current system. The goal is to find out what’s working, what could be better, and what improvements we can make while staying within budget over the next 5 to 10 years.

Visit the Transfort Optimization Plan webpage to find out what the key areas of focus are and how you can get involved.

Together, we can help make Fort Collins’ public transit system more efficient, accessible, and something that works for everyone in our community!
