In Fort Collins, our commitment to enhancing community services is stronger than ever, thanks to decades of support from our residents. Voter-approved sales tax initiatives have been a cornerstone of funding for city projects since 1973, covering everything from street maintenance to police services, parks and recreation, and transportation.
Last fall, Fort Collins voters showed their commitment to a sustainable future by approving a half-cent sales tax increase aimed at bolstering our community’s parks and recreation, transit services, and climate initiatives. This tax, which will be in place for the next 25 years, will generate crucial funding for transportation improvements, climate action, and recreational enhancements.
Transfort’s Enhanced Services
With the approval of this new sales tax, City Council has allocated $1.15 million to improve Transfort’s operations. Here’s what we accomplished in 2024:
- Evening Service Expansion: We extended route service into the evenings on Routes 5, 14, and 18, making it easier for our community members to access transportation when they need it most.
- Enhanced Bus Operator Positions: We implemented changes to enhance the quality of bus operator roles, aimed at boosting recruitment and retention. This includes pay increases and converting some hourly positions to classified-benefited roles, providing greater stability and support for our drivers.
- New Safety & Security Positions: To ensure the safety of our riders and staff, we are adding new positions within our Safety & Security team.
These enhancements reflect our commitment to providing top-notch service and ensuring a safe, reliable transit experience for everyone in Fort Collins.
