After more than four years of providing free rides, this decision underscores our commitment to ensuring that public transit is accessible and equitable for all residents. The fare-free initiative, originally introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, has proven to be a game-changer for enhancing mobility within our community.
Our recent 2023 Transit Funding Study played a pivotal role in supporting this decision by assessing the costs associated with the full implementation of the Transit Master Plan and analyzing the implications of a fare-free system. Community input from local businesses, Colorado State University, and various social service agencies highlighted the substantial benefits of continuing this model – both environmentally and economically.
